Reynisfjara Black Sand beach

Lunch then the Black Sand beach at Reynisfjara was the 3rd stop on the South Shore trip. With its enormous basalt stacks and roaring Atlantic waves its widely considered to be the most beautiful example of Iceland’s black sand beaches. In 1991, National Geographic voted Reynisfjara as one of the Top 10 non-tropical beaches to visit on the planet.

As stunning as it is, it's also quite treacherous with 'sneaky' waves as they call them suddenly rising up and sweeping people away. The tour guide was very specific in insisting nobody got any closer than she did to the water line. But at one point even she had to jump back as a rough wave came in.
