Sólheimajökull glacier

4th stop South Shore tour. Part of the bigger set of glaciers, this one is relatively easy to get to. You don't need crampons just a pair of decent boots and a bit of balance as part of the path is quite a steep slope that you have to walk across. With a frozen lake to the left completely covered in snow it's best to stick to the designated paths rather than trying to go it alone.
The scenery is stunning, especially in the mid afternoon sunshine under a clear blue sky. All the pure untouched snow makes you just want to be the 1st person to leave foot prints across it all.
Because of the recent snow we couldn't actually get to the glacier edge as the river feeding the lake couldn't be seen but you could see the beautiful blue ice that was part of it from the end of the path.
